Malala's Early Life
Education wasn't a major concern for the people in the early days. Once the dream to study was snatched away from them there was no hope of gaining it back. Malala was one of the many children who was threatened by the Taliban. She kept quite for all these years but when her dream of schooling was shaken, she let nothing hold her back to fight for the right that she had to education.
Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12th 1997 to Ziauddin and Thorpekai in Mingora, the swat District of north west Pakistan to a muslim family. Malala has two younger brothers called Atal and Khushal. She was named after a famous female poet and warrior from Afghanistan. Her name Malala means "grief stricken". Her dad is a poet and he runs a few public schools. The school she went to was located in Swat which was called Khushal Public School. She started going to school when she was five years old. Malala was always a very good student at her school and she never failed her exams. She mostly always got the best mark in her class. In 2009 Malala began writing an anonymous blog for the BBC expressing her views on education and life under the threat of the Taliban taking over her village. During this period of time the Taliban started taking control of the area. They started banning television, banning music and banning women from going shopping and they started limiting women's education. Many of the schools that girls went to were blown up, which meant they had to stay home. When the Taliban found about about Malala's blog, her and her father started getting death threats for their outspoken views. As a consequence, Malala and her father started worrying about their safety in the village. Her father also considered moving Malala away from Swat to a boarding school for the sake of her safety, but she didn't want to leave her entire family and move.
